Question about euro 500SL vacuum line routing (see pic)
I am going at this with blindfolds on since there is no clear answer from the diagrams I'm seeing. Because this is a Euro spec car federalized to USA and converted to EGR, but no frequency valve or air pump, I'm putting the renewed vacuum lines back together. I have noticed a considerable number of variations in people putting this vacuum tubing system together.
First off there are 3 situations I am faced with: First of all, the throttle body has a vacuum switch that is designated for reservoir/4 pt distributor/EGR/Warm up reg lower chamber. I have two vacuum inlet ports on top of my manifold. I used the first one to route to the thermoswitch, then directly into the exhaust charcoal canister. See circled tube in the pic attached. The EGR vacuum line connected to the throttle body vacuum switch is routed DIRECTLY to the EGR valve. The second one I have connected to the 4 point distributor connected to the upper chamber of warm up reg, advance, which is all connected to a 2nd thermoswitch that ends up at the vacuum line in front of the cold start controller. The "4 pt distributor" portion of the throttle body also connects to this as well. I am assuming that at an elevated engine temprature the thermoswitch will open, thus allowing vacuum air to enter the 4 pt distributor area, adjusting the warm up regulator to disable rich fuel control. There is a breather tube that connects to the air filter housing, which also looks like it has a small outlet for a vacuum tube. Is this intentionally left open or is it to be connected somewhere else? See attached picture (circled) If any of you 500SL owners can take a picture of your vacuum connections so I can be sure I have mine all set right before taking it in for smog. Thanks in advance!
