New to the Forum-Help

Hi everyone..new to the forum. In the past I have had in this order a 79 450Sl
a 83 380SL a 86 560SL and lastly a 1970 280SL. I've loved them all and actually had the most problems with the 560. I sold the 280 before moving to Florida a couple years ago and I'm ready again for something topless as I've been driving a Landrover the last few years. This will be a second car so I'm looking for something around a late 380SL or one of the last 450's. Is there an area here on the forum where members post their cars for sale or do you just post a thread for that? I'm in the Miami area. Looking for a nice SL for around $10,000 or hopefully less.
Any help appreciated. I've seen some nice ones on ebay in my area but the people always seem hesitant to let me come look at them which makes me very suspicious. Thanks,
Ed

I don't normally promote another forum when on a forum but there is a good "cars for sale" at http://www.oursl.com/listing-forms/inventory.htm
Good luck.

There were more of these sold in the South Florida/Miami area than anywhere else except Southern California per a conversation I had with a San Francisco MB dealer 10 years ago

Check the back postings/threads for the Sl here for as many pages back as you can, there are lots of helpful posts on what to look for (one very detailed one about the '83 SL in particular.)

Take your time, ask all the questions, for sure look at the candidates and drive them, get one with all records, and no rust or accidents, and enjoy it.

From your past history with them, you know them well! You ought to do very well.

SL Market letter, John Olson

Perhaps you already know about this, but www.slmarket.com is a very well known site, has the SL Market letter, and a couple of reputedly excellent books on the SL. Covers the years you have experienced I think.

The site currently features a "phone auction" for a 1985 300SL, champagne, with 1800 actual miles on it, supposedly put on it on trips between Barcelona and Paris and shipped with household goods to Minnesota. I don't know more about it than that. It might go for "silly" money though if auction fever kicks in.

Thanks!

Hey thanks for the info so far..Actually the previous 380SL I had came from Roy Spenser in San Francisco who started Oursl.com. Great guy and very reputable. I just can't see shipping a car from the west coast when I know there must be good candidates on this coast and rather put that money into a future repair fund.

Search mercedesshowroom in the search engine Couple of threads on them

They are in Ft Lauderdale. If you buy from them make sure you get all the books and records if promised. I have heard there have been cases where some independent high line dealers go up to the NY area and buy tatty cars at auctions there, clean them up bring them to Florida to resell at high prices.

As someone else said, there are lots of SL cars in Florida, you could try local newspapers in St. Pete, Tampa, Jacksonville, etc
