1980 450 SL Erratic Cruise Control

Hi,

My cruise control on my 1980 450 SL works when it wants to. I can try to set it and it will go on 5 minutes later or not at all.
Then there are times when I push it and it works fine.
Is there an adjustment? Or can I get some help on a fix.
