450 Sl Cam Shaft Torque
 

Hey Its Me Again,
1978 450 Sl.
Ok, I Got All My Parts, And Then The Right Ones. Now, I Am Replaceing All The Rockers, Lifters, Oil Tube And Holders, Ect.
Maybe Its Me But I Cant Pin Down The Correct Torque Sequence And Levels For The Cam Shaft Bearing Caps. I Have The Books, And They Are Weak At Best. Ready To Reassemble Tonight. Any Help Or Direction Would Be Greatly Accepted.

Second, job #05-220 in my manual shows the cam support screw torque is as follows:
Short M8 screws, 50nm
Longer M10 screws, two steps- first to 30nm and then torque to 60nm

The assembly sequence shows the long screws tightened to full torque first then the short screws.

There is one comment about inserting the outer rear screw on the left cam support before installing the cam/support assembly because of a clearance problem with the brake booster.

thank you. I did order the manual but it has not arrived yet. I have owned the car for two months now and only driven it twice. Its kinda like having a beautiful blonde living with you and being able to look and not touch.
So yes I cant wait for the book. Thanks again.

Remember, the longer bolts are head bolts as well as cam bolts. They must be loosened and then retorqued at operating temp.

IIRC, the camshaft gear bolt is 90 nm. Someone with an M117 book should verify.
