1992 sl500
I have a 1992 sl500
the ASR light keeps coming on and changes the acceleration and shifting of the gears. i dont have the owners manual. there is no set pattern as to when this happens .is there a simple remedy or might it be a large problem |
I think you are describing what we call "Limp Home Mode"
There are many threads on this site describing causes. As I recall, the most common things are: The Brake Light Switch The Over Voltage Protection Relay (I think that is what it is called) The Throttle Position Sensor (I personally experienced this one) The Engine Wiring Harness There are, of course, many more possibilities... Is it intermittent? Does it happen when you tap the brake? There are a few subtle clues to observe, but it can sometimes be a pain to cure this. Good Luck! |
I believe that is limp home mode also. Does it have problems such as very harsh gear shifting, or just maxing out at like 40 or 50 miles per hour? If so, then you have definitely gone into limp home mode.
Please help us by giving some more details, as that way we can provide a strong diagnosis. |
Do a search above for "ASR light" and get a comfortable chair.
