Leaking top cylinder

Within the convertable top mechanism (linkage) on a 95 SL 500 driver side where it actually folds is a Hyd.cylinder. MB seems not to know what it is called or the part number for that matter. Does anyone have any info on this part?

Thanks....

Refer to the attached diagram. Part numbers are:

2 = 129 800 21 72
3 = 129 800 21 72
5 = 129 800 20 72
9 small/upper cylinder = 129 800 17 72 (left), 124 800 02 72 (right)
9 large/lower cylinder = 129 800 02 72
10 = 129 800 16 72

Sorry for barging in - hey Bobterry, I am facing the famous windshield leaking problem and according to my dealer the part nos. are 129 800 0774 (left) and 129 800 0874 (right).

Furthermore he told me that if I can get just the 129 800 1672 (two), will be sufficient to get the job done.

Finally, what would your opinion be in using the "no leak" power steering fluid - for the windshield problem?

Pleased to hear yr thoughts!

My best regards / George

George, the 129 800 07 74 129 800 08 74 parts are the mechanical latches. You don't need these at all.

I would think that you can not substitute any sort of power steering fluid for the M-B hydraulic fluid in the top system. However, as you know, someone on another forum mentioned doing it with success. To get an answer, I would post your question in the Tech Help forum here at Mercedesshop.

Yes, that's right. You can get them from Phil for about $135 each shipped to the U.S.

Message to Dennia

Hi dennis, I recently purchased a 98 SL 500 ... of course one of the top latch hydraulic locks is leaking.
Do you repair these for a fee? Do you have some that I can order and send you my cores? if so how do I get in touch with you? billbil@bellsouth.net

Many thanks

Talking

Bill,

We repair any of the hydraulic cylinders in the soft top system for $40 each and $15 total for return shipping via USPS priority insured mail. We can't touch the roll bar cylinders due to liability issues.

No offense to John Roncallo, but I highly recommend that you do not buy used parts to replace your leaking cylinders. Anything older than '97 is on borrowed time, and depending on what part of the country they are from it could even be a problem with something newer.

Please make sure to call or e-mail before shipping in the event that I'm on vacation.
