tire size 92 500sl

Would like to put some 225/50/16 Goodyear F1 tires on my sl. The original tires (factory recommended) are 225/55/16; same size but smaller (.8") diameter. Does anyone have experience installing different diam tires on these cars? The tire sales guy says it'll mess up my computer. Speedo might read a little high... Would like to keep stock wheels.

Question tires

Want to keep the car orig. Does diameter matter? I have heard the computer might not match diff spin to engine/ rpm/ drive shaft/wheel sensor pulse blah blah blah and generate a fault code or is this bs. I see all kinds of wheel tire combos on these cars.

I have 245/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear and no negative impact on my puter. I have yet to put a GPS in the car to check if the speedo is off though.

Here's what I did.
New 17" Mrecedes chrome rims (the fan style).
New 245/45/17 Conti Supercontact tires.
Result? Fantastic...and no need for any recalibration.
Lee.

'92 500 SL Tire Choice

I am running on my second set of 245/40/18 fronts and 275/35/18 rears with AGM rims. They are great and no ill effects to computer.

I do not know if my speedo is at all affected, but who cares. We look good and look fast no matter how fast we are really going
