350sl with 4.5l - bad engine

The engine of my 1972 350sl (4.5l) run without oil pressure now is history. I have a 1978 euro 350slc and think of swapping entire drive train including rear end. Is there an easy way? Like dropping the subframe including eng/tran? Will the 3.5l fit the wiring? Does anyone know?
tks, Karl

The obvious question is, whats wrong with the '78 that you wouldn't choose to fix it and part out the '72, other than the SLC is not a drop-head? The fuel injection, on Federal Cars anyway, is quit a bit different on the two cars you are comparing. This will probably mean the wiring will be different as well. Anything can be done... its just a matter of money. Have a look-see at the engine offered by the second poser of this thread. There may be your best answer.

The SLC is a rust bucket with only 65k miles and not worth fixing. All mechanical components and interior are good. The body of my SL is in very good shape and therefore I thought swaping the engine and components incl. rear end would make sense. To make it easy I thought to drop the subframe including engine and tranny. Has some done that? How difficult is it to swap the entire wiring harness? I noticed that the instrument panel is in km/h. The SLC also has cruise, heated seats and power windows. All that could be swaped. Am I realistic here?
Any input is appreciated.

Engine swop

Hi

As far as I'm aware should slot in no probs. However it's a different fuel injection system (mechanical as opposed to electrical, also I suspect electronic ignition).
