Question for 1987 SL Owners
I am ordering seat covers online from Performance Products and they ask two questions: (1) how many vertical pleats do your seats have; and (2) do the covers have single needle or double needle stitching between the pleats? Because my car is at the paint shop, I cannot look at my original covers (and the paint shop has not returned my call). I pulled up ebay, looked at pictures of seats from 1987 SL's and determined they all had 6 pleats. However, I could not tell whether they had single or double needle stitching. Could someone with a 1987 who has original seats please look and give me the answer to the second question, so I can make sure I ordered the correct covers? Thanks in advance.

Glenn,
You're probably best off by keeping after or visiting your painter to determine exactly what's in your car. Bob |
How can you tell double-needle stitching? I'm happy to look at my 560 but tell me what to look for.

To tell you the truth, I don't know. Originally, I thought it meant there would either be one or two parallel lines of thread between each pleat. After posting the question, I began to wonder if it meant that two needles were used simultaneously, one above and one below, resulting in only one line. If the latter, I'm not sure how I would tell the difference. I'm not a seamstress. Thanks for asking though.
