side molding

Does anyone know how the side molding mounts to the car (1984 500 SL). One end of my right side is loose and after taking the door panel off I can't find or feel any nuts or even the studs themselves to the molding.
Thanks,
Mike

Well, there is a sliding clip on the end towards the front of the car, and a single screw holding the other end. Inbetween there are several "pop clips" or whatever they are called. All the clips, screws, and parts that go into the "red/white berries" mounted in the sheetmetal are capable of sliding a little. If your front edge is loose, the clip slipped out or rusted; if your rear edge is loose, the screw lost a nut or is rusted (the screw/nut is under the rubber seal on a 560SL at the edde of the door at the lip of the door).

You can get the slider and the screw fitting from the dealer, but IME it is very hard - as in I haven't been able to do it - to replace the slider without damaging the trim piece.
