I've recently purchased a 1988 560SL and have been told it weights anything from 80 to 200 pounds. I want to mount a hoist to take the top off and store it out of the way, but I've also been told that this will warp the hardtop. What is the actual weight of the hard top and can it be stored overhead safely?

I have both the hoist and a rack for storage. My R129 top weighs 73lbs. and is easily handled on the hoist. However, I store the top on a rack, designed for this. I'm sure you can purchase one from Mercedes Parts Shop here on this site. I only use the hoist to remove the top when I plan to put it back on after a short period of time. For summer storage, I have someone help me lift it and place it on the rack.:D
