280 SLC - Driver door sagging

Hi everyone,

The driver door on my car seems to be sagging a little, it looks like it isn't aligned properly. My mechanic says it could be the door hinge.

Anyone encounter a problem like this, will new door hinges help? I guess with age, we all do sag... someplace.

You need two people, open the drivers door to the first stop and have someone lift the furthermost bottom edge of the door, lifting and lowering, - jiggle up and down. Have second person look at top and bottom hinges. If the hinge pins are worn, you'll see movemement when the door is raised and lowered and if real bad an audible clunk, which you will be able to feel by placing a finger on top of each respective hinge. Repeat at fully open. If there is no movement, check your door striker for misalignment or looseness and adjust as necessary. They are substantial hinges and don't normally give grief. The good news is they are still available and only require a minimal amount of blood and skinned knuckles to replace. Hope that helps.

i would suspect loose fasteners on the hinges first.

second i would suspect rust in the attachment area.

i have never seen a benz hinge pin wear out.
