Just put my deposit down on the R230 SL 55 AMG....the spy shots are beautiful.I have a CLK 55 now, if the engine is as good as this one...look out.If anybody has any new info on this car...I would love to know...I know there has been alot of speculation as to which engine will be in the AMG version...any new thoughts????

I have plenty of time to think about it...probably won't see the car for 2 years!

Thanks for the PICS! I hope others take a look and see the changes in store for the SL.I am anxious to see the car in person.....I'm not sure if I like the folding hardtop look as opposed to the soft top.....I may keep my current SL depending on the look and the demand for the new one..Anyway..Congradulations on the car.....keep us posted with any new info. You are the only person I know that has ordered the car!!!

Wow...my dealer has a almost 100 orders for the R230 (all models combined)...I was surprised. I am hoping that very few are for the AMG version...but he couldn't brake it down for me as the computer can't yet distinguish the different models...I wish I knew more about the engine...supposedly it will have the ceramic brakes.

Hey....why doesn't the pic in my signature come through?

jco,

You need to change the n in the first ing text into a m to get the picture shown in your signature.

As I have wished you good luck before, I will do it again.
Thanks for the pictures. We were looking for some pictures of the new R230 as well, since we want to order one for a client for us (my father has an independent car shop).

dale doria,
I am sure that you will like the folding hard top. It is a lot better as the cheap softtop with plastic windows mercedes used on their previous SL models. Finally MB is getting somewhere worth the costs!

MBenz...thanks for straighting that out for me...I never was a very good proofreader.

Yeah, I rented an SLK once and really liked the top supposedly the R230 will have decent trunk space even with top down

Don't expect too much from the trunk space; it will be reduced a lot as soon as the top has to be fitted in there!
Nevertheless: who needs a trunk when driving topless?

JCO,
Thanks for the pics. I wish you luck with the new SL. I really like the contour of the new model from the side and rear, not sure I like the frontal layout that much. The headlights are just too much like the new C. The SL always has its own style and I am not sure I like it to copy other models. But in time I am sure it will grow on me and I will change my mind. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful car.

MBenz,
As far as the SLK style hardtop is concerned, I like it just out of convenience. I think with the soft top, it only adds that "old" style topless driving that people are so similar with. It also gives the car three different looks and handling characteristics.
