Canisters below fuel tank

A new SL owner who spent a good part of the day under the car. There are two canisters on the right hand side below the fuel tank. There is a 3/4 inch line that is attached to them which appears to be coming from the fuel tank. I detected a leak in the braided tube and am reluctant to change it without draining the fuel tank. Does anyone know what these cannisters are and if the tube is disconnected will the fuel pour out?

Thanks

The cannisters should be your fuel pumps. and yes fuel will come out if you disconnect the one from the fuel tank. Good luck!

I had exactly the same trouble with my SL

The first day I had it I smelt petrol and discovered the same leak you describe.

I discovered the flexible pipe had been slightly cut by it's hose clip, so I clamped the flexible hose shut with a pair of mole grips and a piece of cardboard to protect it (just in case I made things worse), then I slackened the hose clip and pushed the hose an inch further onto the metal pipe, and retightened the clip on a healthy piece of hose.

I hope you're as lucky as I was

Bad news: If you take the hose off, it will drain the tank.
Good News: If you take the hose off, it will drain the tank.

I replaced one. Took a replacement hose and pluged one end. Clamped the old hose with vicegrips (locking pliers) was not worried about hurting old hose. Removed old hose from fuel pump assembly.
I cut the old hose lenthwise where it was atached to the fuel tank to make it easier to remove. Just got a little dripping at this point.

With goggles on I took a deep breath, removed old hose and put new one on. Then with new hose on the tank I then clamped the new hose, I was worried about hurting this one, I was gentle.

Then I installed the other end, etc etc etc.

Better than Channel 5, I call it Octane 93.

Good Luck.
