Vibration in my steering wheel
1. The car: 1982 380SL 120,000 mile
2. The concern: I have a vibration, I can feel through my steering wheel, when I am going straight or turning left. It ceases when I am turning right. 3. What I have done: New shocks (replaced the originals), New steering shock/dampener, new tie-rods and drag link, alignment and tire balance, repacked wheel bearings, new brake pads and rotors. All needed to be done anyway. 4. Vibration still there. Any thoughts on what my problem is? All help is greatly appreciated. Jim

Anyone know if this car uses an idler arm. The only thing steering-related that wasn't on that list.

Check and see if your power steering pump is vibrating. The only other thing I can think to do is to change the filter and fluid in your P/S pump

Could be your transmission support mount. When they collapse it transmits vibrations from the drivetrain thru the chasis. Just did mine, what a difference.

Also, cdheck to be sure the mounting bolts for your steering box are in spec.

Similar symptoms plagued my '82 380sl for some time (see prior posts). Just last week I finally had it fixed (seldom drive the car..) It was REPLACEMENT of both front wheel bearings. Apparently some bozo overtightened the rotors - took 3 yrs to burn up the bearings.
Drives like it's supposed to now...Good luck. - Ragtopper
