76 450SL window regulator question?
 

When I close the door on the SL with the window down, there is a rattling sort of sound. With the window up, sounds pretty solid. I think it is the window regulator. I see a regulator kit on the net for about 7 or 8 bucks. Does this rebuild the unit or do I need to bite the 250 or so for a new regulator?

I wouldn't suspect the regulator. You could just have a loose guide track, or some other loose hardware. More than likely it is the guide that is glued to the window at the bottom.

The guide slides up and down the track and with the window in the up position the bottom of the window would not rattle in the track. See the attached pictures. There is one of these on each side of the window.

In my 73 450SL I had 3 out of four not glued to the window any more. I used some quick set JB Weld to glue them back on. A 2-part epoxy would also probably work.

You can remove your door panel to get at them. I have many more pictures if you want more detail. Just email me at engr693@yahoo.com and I will shoot you a few. Else I can post more here.

Also the kits that you speak of have a couple of wear parts and it could be that too, however, I would check the inside of the door first. You have to take the panel of either way.
