Exclamation Door Speakers 1999 R129

The larger speaker cover at the lower part of the door is a snap to remove, one screw, slide to the front and lift off. The smaller speaker cover higher on the panel has me stimied. The parts catalog makes it appear that you can pull it out without removing the door panel. Has anyone out there done this or have a suggestion? THANKS IN ADVANCE

On the ALLDATA website the first procedure is to remove the door liner. The upper small speaker is attached by 3 screws. The lower speaker as shown is held on by 3 nuts. There could have been some changes made within the model year.

I have the same door panel as you, where you can slide the lower grille off, and get to the speaker.

However, the only way i was able to get to the tweeter on the top was to remove the door panel... Unfortunate, but it gets easier to do once you have done one.

When you removed the door panel, how was the upper speaker cover held in place. The EPC does not offer a clue.

Alldata shows the door panel on the 96 SL version not the 99 model

If I recall, I think that they were plastic welded to the door panels.
