What to Drive In Winter? Problem Solved!
Well, I won't drive my 560 in rain, and certainly not snow, and I missed it a lot. It just didn't feel right with the top up.
So, I bought a "beater" 380SL. It has some problems, but the price was right, and I figure 2K+paint will make it good enough. No doubt, the usual things are wrong with it, the air doesn't work, and it has, a collapsed cam follower, I think, making a bad noise (but not "real bad" - i.e, bearing knock) noise. I'll be sorting through this over the 1-2 months (or years...). I'm trying to convince myself that I will actually be able to park it in a supermarket parking lot.

only perhaps!
But you won't will you!
You'll do what you've thought of - then you'll do a bit more and then it will be a car you've resurected and you'l feel even more for her than any other. Then you'll cosset her and not park near anything "old"! and then you'll start not taking her out in the rain or to the supermarket - then you'll have two cars in the garage all winter!! Sounds a great idea though. Keep your motor runnin' Jim

About the worst thing I ever did was park mine in Home Depot in Bridgeport CT with the top down. I thought I would just go in and get a roll of masking tape and go through the quick checkput and be out of there real quick. When I got to the quick checkout and saw that it was in Spanish, thats when I got scared. I went to another line and it turned out the attendent only spoke Spanish. They finally got an English speaking person and I went on my way with no incidents.
I did see a Ferrari one day in a Home Depot, not Bridgport CT but another HD. I do drive my cars in the rain all the time, but I try to stay out of the snow. John Roncallo |
