Robert, I did exactly what you are talking about and it eliminated my trunk leak (The gasket around the lens was old and cracked). As Tom suspected (on the MBCA site), the trunk lid liner gets removed first. It's held on by many clips, two screws, two big rubber screws and a 'slot clip' (that holds up the spare tire cover). There might be a couple of other little things to remove, but I can't remember without seeing it. It's really not that hard to get off. Just be patient and reason it out (I did break a few clips, but they're easily replaced, oh, you might want to mark the 2 rubber screws for depth, so you can put them back as they were). With the liner off you can access the 3rd brake light. Disconnect the power supply and release the lens's back cover (or light bar). It's held on by 2 pressure clips one on each end. Slide it out to one side, but it's rather tight in there and just needs to be jiggled a bit here and there, but it will remove (that was the hard part, I had to work at it a bit to get it out). Now you can remove the actual lens (it's held on by a series of small pressure clips that need to be pinched together for release). It's not to bad to remove, but hard to explain, if you order the part you'll see and understand. Now you can put your new lense in and put everything back together. I'd be happy to help you further, just let me know. Mark
