moving forward after euro light change
1 Attachment(s)
After installing euro lights a few weeks ago I figured it was time to make the paint right
I started just to redo the trunk lid but as you can see I am doing the whole car over I am spraying it as a home project bc/cc paint I painted may cars years ago so I figured at a cost of at least $4000 I will get the gun back out and get to work the trunk had came out very nicely I figured better staighten the rest of the paint job that some previous kobler neer had the ambition to take all the chrome off to do it right Well here we go |
Sounds like the dreaded " Might As Wells " are lurking 'round the corner
Just think : all you wanted was a $250.00 set of European headlights and now this... :D |
The paint has been bothering me for 2 years
Its not what I would consider good detailing plus a scratch here and a ding there Plus I hate a paint job that was taped off instead of stripped trim I feell better know got it all stripped down half of the car sanded I feel its going to be worth it ( I hope ) after its done |
Oh Yes ~
It WILL be worth the effort , trust me ! .

I hope to paint my 380SL like this, right, with the right (hvlp) equipment this spring. When I was a kid, we would paint a car in the morning and drive it at night. Lots of masking tape involved - and a compressor that you could only paint with 1/4 of the time because it was catching up 3/4 of the time.

All this talk about painting brings a question to mind - has anyone out there tried the cheap "dent remover" that's being sold by Harbor Freight and others? It consists of a bar with a rubber pad at each end, and some glue-on rods that you place in the dent with special glue, then put the bar over and screw a nut down against the bar to pull the dent up to the surface. (Obviously only good for small parking lot side dings, etc.) After the dent is pulled up, you use a solvent to release the rod. I have a couple of very small door impressions on the side of my '82 I'd like to get rid of, and am wondering if the tool might actually work. Comments, please?

I got to start putting some pictures of the progress
Takes time to straighten everything out to make it look right got about 1/2 of the car block sanded Trouble is up north in Pa. its gets cold to paint Strife your in the warm area Plus work gets in the way of sanding It's a big job but being older I learned to control and take your time Then by spring it will be all worth it I still love the car without those bumpers Wish they sold Euro or aftermarket ones I never drive it anyware but to the club for golf Love that Euro look That dent remover I don't know These steel parts are strong not easly pulled Even where there was rust it was only surface rust and cleaned up They did build them |

Here are today's update
I am so tired of sanding I just love the dust i don't think I will ever get the garage clean again The main thing when getting older is to mark and take pictures of everything this makes assembly go alot easier If I live that long HA HA Anyway I made some good strides this last week Body is getting to look alot better primering and epoxy sealing as I work around the car the epoxy will seal any parts I had to sand to metal These MB bodies are good metal Lots of steel |
Hey Mike :
Would you like to borrow my SLC for a bit ? I'm a mechanic , not a body man... :P
