450 sl fuel pump

Hi guys is there a universal fuel pump you recommend to use in replacement of the very expensive oem fuel pump. I have a friend that has a 1974 450 sl I also do not know what pressure and volume (GPM) the original pump is? I know you can get a universal pump for under $100. Thanks for any information.

Check Ebay, you can buy the correct Bosch pump for $100 +/-

If the pressure is not listed in the book, get an inline adjustable regulator along with that universal pump and adjust it until you get good smog numbers. Too rich and you see black smoke, Too lean and your exhaust manifolds turn red and fall off. You can also check the plugs for black soot.

Forget about a universal pump. Here's a link to a replacement pump for $179.
