Anyone Running Mobil 1 0W40 in HOT climate?
 

I have a great deal on a case of 0W40. I'd like to know if anyone is happily running it in a hot weather climate? If I am dissuaded, I guess I will go with 15w50 Mobil 1. But I'm interested in hearing if anyone in the south or southwest in happy with 0W40 since it's the official of most MB dealers these days.

I run Mobil 1 0w40 in my SLK320. I run 20w50 in my 450SL. The older engines are engineered to use the thicker oil...larger oil passages and all that.

I used both 15w40 and 20w50 in the 450SL, and the difference in oil pressure waiting at a stoplight is noticeable. Especially on a hot summer day!

I have always liked higher viscoscity oils for the better heat tolerance properties, especially in older engines. After buying the 450SL an oil change was mandatory. I used 10W40 Pennzoil for the winter. The oil seems to be performing as advertised, no problems noticed. With a Texas summer looming the change to a more heat tolerant oil would probably be wise. 20W50 is looking good.

I run M1 0w40 in both my MBs - a 2001 E320 and 1993 300E. It's the factory recommended oil for the '01 for the temperature range experienced in Texas. Neither car has blown up the engine yet, FWIW. :) I expect you'll be fine with it. Of course, down in the valley M1 15-50 probably is probably OK year round too. I think the MB lubricant products chart says it's OK down to ~30 degrees.
