Spark plug wires

I have a 1988 560SL with what I am assuming are the original spark plug wires. The wires come off the cap and enter into a black plasic loom/tube that takes them across the intake manifold and valve cover on each side. They then exit the loom and go to the individual plugs. I am getting ready to replace the wires. There does not seem to be any way to reuse the loom because it does not appear to be split and there is no way to pass the new wires through it. My question is how do you handle this? Do you split the loom/tube and reuse it or just run the wires with out it? Thanks in advance for any help.

I just run the wires without them. Mine were completely brittle. But I did use tie-wraps to hold the wires in a bundle and make everything look neat...

I split mine. It was really stiff and when I split it ,it still stayed together fine.

Well if you really want to to this right and keep the car in original factory condition you have two choices:

1) Order a genuine set of wires from Mercedes, Fast Lane can get them for you.

2) Order as set of BERU wires from FastLane P/N F1020-27007
Order all the parts listed in the attached picture from Mercedes, Again Fastlane can get them.
Either very carfully unscrew all the suppresor ends best to use BAUM tool 103-0037, see Fast Lane.
Cut the 1 meter of sleave material down to the right sizes
Slide the proper wire markers down the length of each wire
Bundel the wires in the correct groups of 4 and install the crrect sleave
Install the other wire marker at the other end of the wire.
Reinstall the wire suppressor ends uising the 2 angled ones from the list for wires #3 and #4.

Or you can do what most people do. Just buy anyset of wires from FastLane and put them on as received.

And chances are if your #3 and #4 suppressor ends are straight, they are not original wires.

Or buy new split loom from any auto parts store - comes in several different diameters.

Thanks for the replies. I think that I will try Gary's approach and slit the bottom of the sleave. This I think will give me best result without going the factory $$$ replacement route. THANKS AGAIN!
