Displacement was 4990cc and output was 240hp, Production was 524 units. The blocks on those cars crack real easy so never let it run hot.

And they sure do RUN! Wind one up to 5000rpm and you'll see what the legend is made of. Picked mine over a 6.3 and have absolutely no regrets.
Be sure it stays cool and has the cats updated. |

See http://www.mbcnsw.org.au/forum/index.php/topic,186.0.html for an article I researched and wrote about the rally versions of the 107026 (450SLC-5.0 and 500SLC). It contains information about power outputs and engine sizes (including the fact that the early 3-speed versions were slightly over 5 litres and the later 4-speed versions were slightly under 5 litres). Production volume of the 450SLC-5.0 was 1636 cars and the 500SLC was 1133 cars. This makes them one of the rarest post war MBs and a model which is becoming sought after by enthusiasts, especially with their rally heritage. The combination of powerful engines and relatively light weight (due to alloy engine, hood, trunk lid, bumpers and bumper brackets) endowed these models with strong performance. For further info consult some knowledgeable owners at http://mbca.cartama.net/forumdisplay.php?f=11
