560sl thermostat temperature

I have an 560sl and have just repaired the water pump and also wont to put the new thermostat since the old one has never been changed (Wahler/Behr brand)

I have just bought a Febi thermostat manufacturers part number 11139 (OEM 1162000315). Although the box is Febi brand on thermostat is writen only MOTORAD/GERMANY. I beleive they produce them for Febi. When I went on www.febi.com it says that this themostat opens at temperature 71C. As far as I know it is OEM recomended opening at 80C.

I leave in hot climate. Do you suggest installing it or getting the one with 80C opening?

Thanks,

Balsa

Use it, there won't be any problem. Your newone is a 160F thermostat, the original is a 176F. You car will still run at the same temperature once the 'stat is open. It just will take a minute or two longer to rise to that temperature. The variations in 'stats will probably not be too noticable. I changed from an 80 to a 71 and noticed no change on my gauge or on the operating temperature using my infrared thermometer.
