Question Just out from winter storage.

Just taken my 1989 560Sl out from winter storage and on it's first road run. Boy is it rough!!
the motor is really running lousy, black sooty emmissions and pulsating acceleration etc. It was fine when I put her away last October. What could be the problem? Help please

Did you add stabilizer to the gas before storage? Reformulated gas has a short "shelf life". I store for about 5-6 months and even with stabilizer, the first tank in the spring can be a bit rough. Of course there are other possibilites for your problem, but you might consider trying some fuel injector cleaner to wash out the fuel system.

Thanks Tecqboy,
No I did not add fuel stabalizer before storing (will do next time though) I will run her again today and add some injector cleaner as you suggest and see how she goes, thanks.

Depending on where you stored it...maybe a rodent made a nest home in the air intake. Mice and other creatures love to get in there. Check the flex pipe to the air cleaner. Worth a look.

Checked the air intake and all is clear......I guess it's the stale gas that's causing the problem? Thanks for the thought though,

Better hurry and get it fixed. Up there you'll have to put it back in storage for winter in about a month won't you?

You may only have a fouled plug or two. Sometimes my 107 will foul out a plug upon cold start from a long sleep. If the engine does not run up to a good fast idle speed after start the extra fuel from the cold start valve seems to foul out a plug on mine...usually the rear one under the battery tray.

One day my car ran great. I chose that time to do plugs, cap rotor and wires.
It then ran crap. I thought I had done something wrong like crossed a couple of wires or something. I spent hours trying to get it right. Turns out that the warm up regulator picked that exact time to crap out. Just a coincidence but it just goes to show....

Thanks 230/8 and nobby.......I guess it could be all sorts of strange things.....I am putting in a good dose of fuel injector cleaner / stabilizer fluid and then take her out for a good run on the freeway and see what that will do and will report back.

Don't waste your time on stabilizer, at this point. It's like wearing a condom after your wife gets pregnant.
