2003 SL500 Help!!! Loss of power

First off, let me say im happy that i found this forum. I have a 2003 SL500 Sport. I have had problems with the MAF sensor and replaced it. My mercedes tech also informed me that my loss of power is due to the sensor located in the accelerator. I have purchases a new accelerator and put it in. Now my car hesitates and loses complete power. Anyone here have this problem or can diagnose this and let me know what the problem may be? Thanks in advance

2003 SL500 Help!!! Loss of power

Im losing power with my 03 SL500. It wont let me accelerate at all actually. It will just say ESP and i would lose all power. Ive changed the MAF sensor and the Accelerator so far as recomendations from my MB Tech. Any suggestions on what it could be?

Sorry to be of no help, but just thinking how times flies - the new SLs are already out of warranty.

Trying to diagnose a modern MB without checking for fault codes is a waste of time. Have it checked by your tech, and have him test the systems battery as well.

fault codes were checked... and the sensors were changed. Same fault codes are still coming up however.

Lacking the experience of a veteran technician, I think a reasonable place to start is to connect a diagnostic scanner and check codes and observe live data for the fuel and ignition systems. An inexpensive OBDII scanner may do some of this, but better still would probably be one of the Carsoft interfaces that sell on eBay. They come in 2 flavors: "multiplexed" and non-multiplexed. Since your car is a newer Merce and doesn't have a 38-pin diagnostic connector, you would need the more expensive multiplexed unit that sells for about $300 shipped. If you send me an email, I will check eBay and reply with a link to the interface I am talking about.

With an ESP problem your car should go into limp home mode. Why would yor tech recomend a MAF and accelerator (what ever that is) with an ESP problem.

I assume your tech is an independant. If he is not using a Star diagnostic system or a really good system, he may be limited to standard OBDII codes and may not be able to read the MB propriatary ESP codes. You may want to take this car to the dealer for this kind of diagnosis.
