Does anyone of you with a M104 (300-24 valve) engine has ASR and a cruise control on his car???

I know that the US is the one-and-only country with cruise control and I was wondering whether the early 90 models came with ASR (& cruise control) as an option as well!
I was being told that I could not get a cruise control on my 300SL-24 because I have ASR...

greetingz,

NY1???

Please let me know whenever you have a 1990-1994 mercedes with ASR and cruise control. I want to know whether it is possible or not...I just want to add a cruise control and want to know if that is possible at all (I think it is, but the nearby MB dealer can't tell me yes or no for sure).

greetingz,

MBenz,

I hope the modifications are going well!

My 1990 300SL has cruise, but no ASR.

How did the head gasket replacement work out? After I completed mine it still leaked a few drops. Found it to be the small o-ring seal around the lower bolt on the fan support housing.

The replacement of the head gasket went well. I have new valve guides, valve seals, valve lifters, timing chain, front crankshaft sealing and some other parts as well. The car ran fine again and I have torn it apart for the planned mods a little after the head gasket was replaced.

I just took a look at your pictures again and see that you still have the old style lower door and rear fender panel...
Do you have a digital camera and if you have one, can you send me some pictures of your Xenon lights (the ballast units) and a picture of how the space between the chassis and front bumper is filled (the newer R129 SLs have thicker front chassis beams).
Do you have the auto leveling system on your Xenon lights as well? I need to remove the rear axle to get the sensors in place...

greetingz,

I drove a 1992 300SL-24 with ASR and cruise control last Saturday. A friend of me came by with the car of his father..I never knew theirs had ASR.
I am currently using the chassis# of their car to get the right parts for the additional cruise control...I wonder whether it will work out well.

I have a 1990 300SL-24 with ASR and cruise control. I'm a bit new with R129 cars, but over a here i think every 300SL-24 sold here comes with both... but i could be wrong.

ASR was not standard on the early models, it came as an option. Nevertheless, it IS possible to have cruise control in combination with ASR and that is what I wanted to know after a German MB dealer told me otherwise...

FYI: I have added the cruise control successfully on my 1990 330SL-24 with factory ASR.
The dealer told me that I could only add a cruise on benzes without ASR (information straight from the MB WIS computer), but couldn't tell me what to do with my SL that actually had the ASR.
I installed the cruise control switch and plugged it into an already available connector under the steering column and beware the simplicity of life: I HAVE CRUISE CONTROL NOW! All I needed was a switch and a manual filed hole in the steering column cover (or buy a pre-holed cover for $100+).

greetingz,
