1987 560SL Hardtop - Installation?

Hi All

does anyone have any idea on how to re-install a hardtop on a 1987 560 SL, I had a friend pass away and we need to sell it but need to install the hardtop...

not sure if we need parts or what

does anyone have a diagram or instructions on how to install it?

thanks

I tried to attach the instructions from the manual but the file is too big. Send me a PM with an e-mail address and I will send you the file.

Look at the hard top and you will see in the front there are two "screws"- these fit into the top of the windshield. Rotate them and you'll also see that they move toward and away from the hardtop itself. Rotate them so that they are away from the hardtop. You'll either need the small special tool to move them once they sit in the top of the windshield female receivers (or use a set of allen wrenches- find one that fits the slotted hole that is above the corkscrew section of the screws). By rotating these you secure the front of the hard top. The rear of the hard top has a single male prong that fits into the closed cover which hides the soft top. Behind the driver seat you will see what appears to be a manual window crank. If you move this the soft top cover will pop up. Dont force the crank handle to much in one direction or the other. Once the the soft top cover pops up a bit then move the handle back and give a slight downward slap to both sides (passenger and driver) of the cover putting it back in place. Rotate the handle just a bit more and then place the hard top over the car, placing the two front "screws" and the rear prong settle into the cars female receivers. Move the front screws to secure them, and then move the "window crank" to pull the rear down and secure it. Others please chime in and give your hints or idea to help out.
