Replacing Sun Visor Clips

I need to replace a 560sl sun visor clip (type pictured). I found a thread that suggested loosening the screw that is in the visor itself and then sliding the visor off the bar, but I've found this to be either wrong or very difficult. Even if I could get it to slide more, I question whether the thin metal rod that holds the clip is directly connected to the larger rod that connects the visor the the upper windshield area. Has anyone done this before?

Yes it's all the one rod. You have to make sure it is oriented properly when you extract and reinsert it. It has a flat section that must lie parallel to the visor.

Well, this goes to prove the "if it's not one thing it's another" adage: I just got in the tab for the sun visor, replaced it, and went to tighten up the screw. Only now, the (what seem to be plastic) threads in the visor just disintigrated and it of course won't tighten. Now what I've got on my hands is a limp noodle of a visor.

Beyond getting a new visor, any tips or suggestions?

There are metal threads in there - you may have to slightly pinch the clip together to get the screw to start in... I just did mine a month or so ago, same problems, same resolution...

I am now in the process of replacing the same part and I cannot get the visor to slip off the rod. What do I do?

Is there anyway to tighten the vertical tension on the visor? Mine kind of flap around - hit a bump and they both jump up and then back to previous position. The screw on the end doesn't appear to do anything but hold the visor assembly in place.
