1991 300 sl probleme acceleration
The car runs well when you drive, but after a stop when you accelerate it will take forever to move, sometimes is almost stalls. I changed the distributor cap and this did not help.

May we assume this is a new problem? I have a 300SL and although acceleration is adaquate from a stand still, it's no dragster, especially with the air conditioner on. The 300SL doesn't really start to move until the RPMs hit about 3000. Also, it always starts in 2nd gear unless you manually over ride for a 1st gear start. Check air filter.

Had the same problem with 50K mile 1991 300SL. Replaced the ignition coil and problem was fixed. New NGK plugs, rotor and cap just to ensure good spark.

TeqBoy, I have a 500sl that I'm still getting familar with, my car has a slow get up too, doesn't stall, but just a little slow on leaving a stop light. I'm use to my corvettes power and wasn't sure if this is normal for a mercedes sl. Also why does the car start in 2nd gear ? Anyway to get to start off in 1st gear and are there any bad effects/good effects of doing this ? thankyou
