1982 380SL Speedo/Odometer repair
 

Can anyone tell me how to repair an electronic model speedo/odometer for an '82 380SL. This unit is sealed with rivits, the speedometer works and the odometer ceased working for no apparent reason at around 177,000 miles.
Mechanic says he can drill out the rivits to get at the inside of the unit to access the odometer, but then the holes will show when he puts if back together.
Any suggestions?

your odometer is most likely stopped working due to the smaller gear (12 tooth) damage. If is that's the case you need to replace that. You can buy the replacement gears at: http://www.odometergears.com/subpages/mb.html
