Diesel people are a different kind of person. They just have this facination with diesels no matter how slow they are. I would be afraid of buying a diesel for fear of catching what ever it is they got.

Now diesels are getting some power these days, that could all change my opinion in the futer. But for now they are still boat anchors.

There are just some vehicles that should never be diesel powered. My diesel brethren may see me as a heretic spouting off like this.
But I don't currently have a running diesel. I'd love to do what JR is doing to his SL to my 300D if I had the patience, ingenuity and most of all the cash. I think dropping in an M117 in my 300D would be more doable on my competence level.

I'd only drive a diesel super car if it came that way.. I would drive a diesel SL but.. only if you can cram a super tuned 606 in it.. which will never happen

Sounds like something the Finns would do.

I drive a 2002 jetta diesel as my main car.I have owned it since new with a 161,000 miles.I am very impressed, next car will be a Mercedes E classdiesel. The Diesel has a faster 0-60 time then the gas engine. My Dad owneda diesel in the 80s,they have come a long ways.I read somewhere Marathon is investing Billions in refineries in the next 5 years. If they canpurify the emissions enough we will see a lot more in the future. The bestpart of driving these cars is the consistent Torque always available. It will never be as fun cruising in my SL though.

Sure my 85 300SD takes about 12 secs to get to 60, but it can get nearly 30mpg and rides and handles better than any big car I've ever been in. I drive it a lot more than my SL and they are two entirely different German beasts. But putting a diesel power plant in a 107...that's just crazy.

BTW...have any of you SL guys ever driven or ridden in one of the new 320CDI diesels? Fast, quiet and powerful...amazing!

I'm not an SL owner, only a CE owner. I drove one of the then new 320CDI's when it just came available stateside. I was impressed by the power, quietness, smoothness and handling. It made my 300D I owned at the time feel like a garden tractor.

I wouldn't do it but hey, it is just a car. The 107s are so prolific that the loss of one to the diesel gods is no big loss to posterity.

Now if it were a slc converted into a spiffy little pickup truck, a diesel would almost be mandatory.

Just think about it. Down by the Mexican border, people would be driving arround in a Mercedes Pee-cup.
