Brand Recommendations for Pad/Rotors

Looking for suggestions for brands for rear brakes pads & rotors for my 560SL. Thinking of Mintex pads/ATE rotors...but will listen closely to suggestions/experiences with other brands. I have used ATE rotors on my 300SD with no problems, but I used Pagid pads...good but dusty!

Thanks all!

I replaced my rear pads last summer. I'm real happy with the Axxis Deluxe Organic pads. I got them from Advance Auto. They are listed as Beck/Arnley Axxis Deluxe Organic. About $40 and they had them in two days. Check the Advance website. Little or no brake dust, quiet, good braking.

Uhhh, you really should give Phil a call and see what he has available. Good advice and good prices on quality stuff. Click the buy parts link at the top of the page.

Pick a brand, but go with ceramic. Great performance and no nasty carbon dust!

IMO, Balo makes the best rotor for the money. Have been using them on MB and BMW for years.

FWIW, They own their own foundry (in Germany) and have very precise manufacturing processes.

EBC redstuff

I went with EBC red-stuff pads on all 4 corners on my 1991 500SL.
Real dusty during break in. Once the break in is over little to no dust and awesome stopping power.

My 2 cents..

Matt

I just went ten rounds with my rear brakes and brake squeal. I used Axxis pads on my old but good shape rotors. I replaced the pads with premium Carquest brand when the squeal appeared. The squeal got worse.
I then bought MB rotors and pads.
Squeal is gone.
To be fair, though, I have Axxis pads on the front with new MB rotors and haven't had a problem.

I've ordered a front set of EBC Redstuff's from Rock Auto...which are on backorder for an estimated ship date of 12/5/08. If I get the fronts, I will then order the rears to match.

I will post the outcome of this order. Based on prior posts here and elsewhere, I am highly skeptical.

An update on my previous post.

After waiting two weeks, I got impatient waiting for the ceramic pads to arrive. I cancelled the order and went with ATE Friction's on all for corners.

I also sprung for some stainless steel braided hoses made by Techna-Fit, which were almost a perfect fit.

Visit http://www.techna-fit.com/mercedes.html for part numbers, then buy 'em at your favorite parts source. They come in different colors too.

I tried ordering the EBC Red stuff last year. I got the same back order story for about 3 months. Finally i found a set of genuine MB pad on E-bay to I tried them out. That was a big mistake. Genuine MB pads are dust bowls compared to the Textars I was using. They do tend to stop better. But I will go back to the Textars and step on the pedal harder.

What do you mean by Techna-Fit hoses are almost a perfect fit.

Brake Pads

Akebono Ceramic

Little or no DUST,Great Stopping Power
(The Ceramic/Copper combination allows these pads to absorb HEAT quicker
and disperse it faster also.)

I think Textar was the OE brand of the era. ATE are also quite good. I recently replaced the front pads in my 97 E420 with PBR Ceramic pads. They did squeal so I added some CRC anti squeal goo. The squeal is gone.

I agree! I have Akebono Euro pads on all four corners of my 2002 S500 with MB brand rotors and am very satisfied. The lack of dust is exciting and I've had no squeals. I can't tell any difference in braking from the OE pads I removed.

Unfortunately, they are not available for the front of either of my 1992 cars...

What dust? There is none!
