320SL convertible failure

Can any body help? I have a 95 320sl and the soft top is not responding, the roll bar is not responding either. I have checked every fuse and relay that I know to check. Also I have tried replacing the sunroof switch as well.

Has the battery been replaced or disconnected?? If so the windows must retrained so that they drop when the doors are opened.

How to synchronize (retrain) windows on SL

Only necessary on SLs from December '94 on. They have a modified control module for the power top that "forgets" the position of the windows when the battery is disconnected.

Procedure described by M-B:

(1) Turn the ignition ON (not necessary to start engine).
(2) Close all doors, press and hold the left/right power window switches in the closing position until the door windows are in the fully closed position.
(3) Continue to hold the door window switches pressed for 5 seconds after the door window movement has ceased.

soft top

good news, the roll bar is operarional now, the sunroof switch does not remain illuminated either. However the sunroof is in the down position and I have gone through the synchronizing procedure for the windows and they are not responding at all when I push the switch, the switch blinks on and off when trying to raise the top. The switch remains illuminated for about 5 seconds when I press it to lower and lock the soft top. The top locks into the down position.

By the way, I found the popular mechanics cd and it has alot of good info, thanks for your help.

almost there

After I complete the process of retraining the windows, I haft to manualy raise the soft top and lock it into position. Once this is done the top can be lowered using the switch.

How ever when I use the switch to raise the top, the front hydrolic locks do not lock the front of the top down.

Also the soft top cover that covers the soft top while in the down position, will raise up to allow the soft top to be raised, it will remain in the up right position.
