About the only way to do it is to remove the center console panel.

Take out the ashtray, take out the ashtray frame by removing the two screws in the back and pulling out starting with the right side - the power connector for the lighter is on the left side and you'll have to angle it funny to get it out. Once that's out of the way you'll see two screws in the wood panel. Take them out, slide the wood straight back toward the rear of the car to disengage the pin that hold the back and then lift it up.

As you're putting the new switch in, be careful of the plastic ring. Even on new switches it's easy to break. Ease the switch into place carefully.

Thanks for your help. I'm going to order a new switch in the next couple of days and give it a shot.

Help!

Finally got around to trying to fix my window swith this afternoon. I took the console apart to get to the switch and thought I'd roll up my windows by first doing the left side (the switch that still worked) and then moving it to the other side and rolling up the right side. Funny thing was, the right side wouldn't go up. Moved the workign switch nack to the left and it doesn't work now either! What could possibly be the reason behind this? THe hazard lights still work fine. I'm a little worried about ordering a new switch at this point as they are not exactly cheap. Any ideas???

It's possible the fuse got blown while the center console was being messed with. It's also possible that both switches are going or gone.

Try this: With the switch in the console so you can get some leverage, try pushing down hard on the switch (front and back) and with the switch still pushed down try rocking it to the up and down position. I've had four switches go out on me and this would get a few more operations out of them before the replacements came in.

And, really, I suggest getting the replacement from the MB dealer. One switch was bad when I got my car, but I replaced both switches to keep the look even. The new switches - bought for the lowest price I could find - never really felt right and they both died within 6 months. I bought new ones from the MB dealership and they feel like they're supposed to and I haven't had a problem with them.

Thanks for the info. Is there a way to know which fuse is for the windows? Are they labeled in such a way? And I know this is stupid, but where is the fuse box?
