1992 500 sl check engine light ?

Is there a way to tell at what time and date the light came on? Do the codes have a time and date on them?
Interested to find out if my kid took the car out when I was away, now I have a check engine light ON.

No way to get that info. I am afraid your kid gets a free ride and you get a trip to your local indy mechanic.

In my youth I took my Father's BMW for rides when my parents were out of town. I would reach up under dash and disconnect speedo cable. It was always returned cleaned and full of gas so if he knew he didn't mind. For your piece of mind always write down milage and place a piece of scotch tape at bottom of door which usually breaks when door opens. Disconnect ground cable on battery.
