How do you get to the battery in the trunk when the battery is dead???
Tried the key and it would not unlock the trunk so I could access the battery.
Help is welcome. Thank you

Not sure about the trunk, but could you charge the battery by connecting a charger someplace under the hood, or use one of those gizmos that plugs into the cigarette lighter?

I think what Chuck means is give the car a charge or a jump either through the jump points in the engine compartment or by using one of the devices that charges through the lighter so that then you can open your trunk in the manner you usually do (that is without the aid of the key).

You do not need a battery to access the trunk lock. You need to turn the key and push it in.

You failed to mention the year in which car was built and where you are located. If you are in the US please feel free to call 'M-B Free Roadside Assistance'.

Be very carefull when jump starting your car. If you do it incorrectly you could be looking at an expensive electronic module.

Please read http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r129-sl-class/1281789-free-roadside-assistance.html#post2371141 If you have a R129 read further down.

My SL600 (and all R129's) do not require any power to open the trunk. If the ignition key does not unlock the trunk, the trunk tumbler does not match the ignition tumbler. I think someone already has mentioned that once the trunk is unlocked, you must press the large black trunk button to open the trunk lid.

While an interesting concept, I do not believe you can charge a battery through the cigarette lighter. In theory, yes, and it would have to be a 'trickle charge'. I'm not sure the fuse protecting the cigarette lighter circuitry is large enough to support a substantial battery charge current flow. Also, since I do not smoke, I cannot remember if the cigarette lighter circuit is active with the ignition off. Charging a battery in any car with the ignition on is a no-no.

I know there are products that plug into the cigarette lighter socket for holding radio codes, etc. when the battery is changed. But these are low current draw items.

Nevertheless, it would be interesting to test.

First remove the plastic cover, engine compartment right side by the windshild .
The battery heavy possative cable goes direct from the battery to the right front of the car you will find it about 12'' from the right hood hinch and 12'' from the windshild it is hiden under some plastic covers ,it splits too the main fuses, the alternator , and starter.
Be very carefull don't fry anything.
Don't forget.
With fire you can warm up the house
Or you can birn it.
As far as I know
You can unlock the trunk with your master key.
