1973 450SL -- over my head!!

I found her in a boneyard last week about to go to the crusher. Silly, but I couldn't let that happen.

The car is either a ground-up restoration or a parts car, and needs to go to someone who knows these cars -- I love 'em, but I don't know 'em!:uhoh: I've really got all I can say grace over with 6 diesels, maybe going on 7, so this SL is looking for a home.

I've posted it in both the Parts forum and the Car forum. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-benz-used-parts-sale-wanted/194924-fs-1973-450sl-total-redo-parts-car-dallas.html

Hope she'll be of use to someone.

Sunny

Still no pics?:o

Sorry -- soon!!!

It's 100 miles away, and I can't get back until Thursday. Doin' my best! Check late Thursday or early Friday -- they'll be here!!

Pictures! Finally!!

My pictures are too big, so I posted them on Photobucket -- here's the link. http://s211.photobucket.com/albums/bb295/sunnyintx_album/1973%20450SL/

There is some small body damage that I couldn't see when it was up against all the other smushed MBZs, but it's still far more good than bad as far as the body is concerned.

The boneyard guys dug out the grille (they'd forgotten they had it -- and it's in good shape!) and put it on, but I failed to get it in the pics. If you have doubts, buy whiskeydan's!

Let me know if you're interested. Seeing her again in almost the light of day, I'm definitely not going to be insulted with a lower offer!! She just needs a home.

That car is boneyard worthy. it would cost far more to restore the body than it's worth. Sometimes you just have to let them go, and that one surely fits into that catagory.:grim:

I'll have to agree on this one. I would be hard pressed to give $500 for that car locally, I have given less for the 2 300SDs that we are driving. Good luck selling it.

Who in their right mind would spend easily over $10 grand on body work alone to restore that car? Not to mention easily over $2000 g on the interior. I shudder to think about $$$ for the drivetrain, not to mention the suspension and electrics. Why would anyone want to spend probably $20 grand plus to restore a car worth maybe $5000 in nice condition? Sentiment is one thing, insanity is quite another.

As far as a parts car, well perhaps maybe $200 to the right person. But judging from the exterior condition I wouldn't want it at all for any price.

Sorry Sunnyintx, but that's one sorry wreck ready for the crusher.

I am surprised the bumpers are still there. They are worth $$$$
