Original Becker Stereo

I have a 1988 560SL that came with an aftermarket Pioneer CD Stereo. I would like to know what model Becker Radio was originally installed when the car was new. Also where can I buy an original replacement?

Thank You,
JK

Try these folks:

http://www.beckerautosound.com/Classic/index.htm

They also do exchange/repairs for later models.

It came with a Becker Grand Prix Electronic and was AM/FM with a tape player. You might try eBay.

A quick ebay search shows several similar models, so I looked more closely at mine. It is a 'BE 0780', also out of an '88 560sl. Here is one on ebay.

That's the one that my 1984 300D has in it.

These radios may have several discrete pieces. The head unit as in the picture above, the receiver which usually mounts in the trunk, and a low frequency power amplifier which is mounted in different places depending on the model of vehicle.

replace with becker? Caution

If your present set is working well, consider carefully. I had a original becker repaired fully at becker, paid through the nose and completely crap! I use a sony that plays well and cost less than 1/2 the cost of the becker repair! good luck, Abe G

I Got A Real Nice Grand Prix For 1989 560 Sel From Potomac German Auto. Paid $135.00. The One That It Replaced Made 3 Trips To Becker It Was Still Junk. If You Call Them First They Will Help You. I Think The One In Your Photo Is The Same As I Have. Good Luck.

Thanks to all! I guess I'll keep the Pioneer. Unless I can find a good one with all the original components.

If you plan on never enjoying music on your cruise then I suggest the Becker.

Not necessarily... It really depends on the model of the stereo, the model car, and the year. In the '88 560 at least, it is all self-contained in the head unit.

cheers...
