Reprogramming central locking remote

Hi all,

I know the procedure for this is in the manual, but as my car was supplied new in Germany then exported to Japan it only has manuals in these 2 languages. Unfortunately I speak neither!

Can someone please let me know the procedure?

Many thanks,
Bryn.

You do not specify the model, so I'm not sure if this will be applicable to you. But here is the scanned section from my owner's manual regarding synchronizing the remote locking system for my '96 SL600 (R129 model).

My SL has the infra-red sensor in the bottom of the rear-view mirror. On your car, I believe the sensor is in the exterior door handles. That should be the only difference. You may know this already, but I would hate for you to feel frustrated if you thought the sensor was in the mirror and the procedure wasn't working for you.

Point the remote key to the door handle, push the lock/unlock button on the remote, within 30 seconds lock/ unlock the car with the key.
Remote should work now.
