R-129 suspension
After 17 or so years I think the front springs may need replacing. Does anyone know the standing height of the front end measured from the wheel well to the ground, I think mine may be a little low but have no specs to go by although the car seems to be a little stiff but handles very well. Any thoughts??????

At 17 years I had to replace all shocks and some (most) rear suspension bits. Never touched the springs. It rides fine on 18" AMGs. Not sure you need springs.

I know that shocks aren't supposed to affect the ride height, but replacing the struts raised the sagging front of my 92 significantly. Perhaps the 'preload' on the shocks has a lifting effect?

I should have mentioned this in my post. He is correct. It did the same to mine.

Also, there are spacers that go on the end of the springs that can be replaced with thicker ones to raise the car. The mechanics identify the spacers by the number of 'bumps' they raise the car.
Again, another way of saying that you are not likely to actually need new springs. Good luck! I will bet that new struts will restore your ride just fine!

Springs do sag and they are not expensive to replace.
