450sl Charcoal Canister

Last night I discovered a rather large hole in the bottom of the charcoal canister on my 450sl. I'm sure that this has been there for quite some time (as the car is new to me) & my question is do I need to replace the canister? If I do where can I get one because I can't seem to find it at any parts stores (including on-line).

I understand the function of the canister, just not sure if it's creating a problem or will potentially create one in the future.

1979 450SL I also just noticed a large hole in my charcoal canister.
What kind of problem will this cause. Jim

Where can I/we obtain a new canister? I have not been able to find any on-line at any parts stores. Is MB the only place to get one?

Edit:
Just got off the phone w/MB USA classic parts center. There are 28 canisters in the country & they are $105. There are also over 400 in Germany.
