Mystery 107 Part

The car is a 1985 US 380SL that is undergoing rehab.

The part appears to be some sort of sensor, and its wire/cable is attached with ties to the bracing in fron of the evaporator. It has a screw and a clip painted the body color. The wire or cable runs along the right fender and through the firewall. It has "65" and a degree mark stamped on it.

What does it do, and where does it attach?

TIA

Not sure about this particular pic but the 560 SL has an external temperature indicator with its sensor located near the front bumber by the license plate holder.

OK, thanks to all. Makes sense because the license plate bracket is off the car. I will put it back on and see if I can find a hole that matches the screw.
