1993 SL500 air conditioner "sudden death"

Yesterday the AC worked fine. Today I get only warm/hot air no matter where I set the temperature selector. Before I go somewhere for a repair, I'd like to know what the possible problem might be so that I can at least appear like I know something about what might be wrong. I'd hate to be offered a major repair for a minor problem! Any suggestions? Thanks!

There isn't an easy answer with out you doing some work.
1) check the fuses.
2) Is your compressor running.
3) If compressor is running, put your hand on the low side hose is it cool?
4) If its cool you need parts, and maybe freon.
5) Compressor not running.
Disconnect pressure switch on accumulator and Short for a few seconds.
Is compressor running now?
6) No, you need parts.
7) If yes, you need freon, & maybe parts.

Thanks! The spirit is willing, but the brain is weak. I know where the fuses are, I think, but where is the compressor, the pressure switch, and the accumulator? Bill

No responses with photos yet. I keep hoping! Sometimes this forum is great, other times not so much! Guess it depends on who's looking for what!

Gentlemen.
The compressor is under the power steering pump.
djblu, you did the wipers and removed the headlight on your car.
Good job.
It should be easy for you.
The accumulator/ drier, is behind the left head light.
The pressure switch is on the drier, color black with two connectors.
NOT THE ONE GREEN OR RED with two wires on it, thats the fan switch.
