Day trip in my SL

A couple of photographs from a very pleasant day trip around Northumberland by SL. Mine is the 129; the 230 (together with the mint Aston Martin DB6) belongs to one friend and the 124 T-Model belongs to another. The 230 is the latest 5.5litre model and has significantly more grunt than the previous version (which had the same m113 motor as my own). You can really tell the difference; the exhaust note in particular is deep and crisp. (It bears a V12 plate because it replaces an unsatisfactory Aston Martin DB9.)

You probably get more enjoyment from your SL than anyone on the forum. I remember when you got it and the fun and trials you have gone through. Still looks like a new one though,,, enjoy ! Great pics BTW.

Thanks Pete!

I really enjoy the car: it's been 4.5 years and 100,000miles now and I'm not bored of it yet. The help and feedback on this forum is part and parcel of that enjoyment (certainly I'd never have got the air con fixed without answers available here). I'm driving it to Italy and back soon. We're going there along the Cote d'Azur and down the Italian coast and then coming back through Turin and across the Alps, more than 1,000miles in one day... I can't wait.

I've loved those Astons ever since Sean Connery used to drive them in James Bond movies.

The Aston is in staggeringly good order: better than new. The motor has been taken out to 4.2litres by renowned Surrey specialist R S Williams. I think this gives it circa 300bhp. For a late-sixties motor car, it is FAST! And the owner drives it as intended.

Interestingly, the wagon is a great drive, too. I took it for the last 20miles cross-country and kept up with the Aston running in the 40 to 60mph range (where appropriate). Holding the gears in the (5spd) autobox (mainly in 2nd and 3rd) to keep the revs above 3,500rpm, it really flew. It has the Sportline chassis, so it is a good handler, too. The big capacity straight-six motor sounds great when wrung out, a lot like the Aston, in fact!

I'm trying to persuade my wife to let me buy the wagon, but it's not on the cards. Just for you Pete, here's a better picture:

Its awesome to see those pics of your BEAUTIFUL SL!

They are great cruisers, as they have a fantastic ride, and plenty of power. Its awesome to see yours being driven, as I know a few people with late model SL's and they just sit.

Good luck on your next trip.

And BTW that wagon looks awesome.
