Power Outlet for '95 SL500
Hello,
I bought a used '95 SL500 and was surprised to find that there is no 12 volt power outlet anywhere in the cabin. I was told that when this car was ordered from the factory, the owner had to choose between having an ashtray (which then came with a cigarette lighter) or having cup holders in the center console (which meant no cigarette lighter and therefore no 12 volt outlet). Has anyone been able to add their own power outlet to this body style? I made a dead-end attempt at installing one myself, but having the battery in the trunk complicates things since there's no easy way to run a wire between the trunk and the cabin. Thanks! Hank |

Power Outlet for '95 SL500
Pete,
Thanks for your reply. I checked out your "Father's Day Project" and am wondering where you bought the actual outlet. Did you just pick up a generic unit at the local auto parts store, or is it an official product from the MB dealer? And where did you route the wire? Does it just go under the floor carpet and then forward/up from there, or just straight up in a direct line to the new outlet. I appreciate your help! Hank |

That is a generic unit I had laying around the house, but I like it because it has the rubber cover for when it's not in use. Under the rug are lots of places to pull power and a good ground.
