Gosh, another leak! Fuel this time - 450SL
 

I hope it is because I am driving the ol gal now and she is just trying to slowly show me where she needs attention. Well after a spin into work today I smelled gas, pretty strong from the engine bay, I opened the hood and saw gas around the fuel line going into the injector body. Closer inspection revealed several "tired lines"
I feel like I should replace them all but how is that done,without fuel flying all over the place. It there a place to run down pressure. I assume the rails are pressurized?
Looks like a simple R/R but open to insight from those that have been there, done that, especially the gotchas:D
Is the fuel line standard or special MB only???

5/8" ID fuel injection hose to withstand the high pressure. Available at any auto place. 4' is more than enough to replace:
- 8 injector lines
- Line from fuel rail (on the 108 it's on the frame rail to the metal line that goes between the PS pump/distributor)
- 2 lines from said rail to fuel rails
- Line to CSV
- Line from 2 fuel rails to pressure regulator
- Line from pressure regulator to dampener
- Line from dampener to return line
- Map line (while you're at it if you have it left over)

-- Make sure to buy FUEL CLAMPS as opposed to WORM CLAMPS. Fuel clamps like the stock ones. You'll need 8 unless you have the special tool to re-crimp the lines at the bottom of the injectors (doubtful)

5/8 fuel line is a little big, get the recommended metric sized lines.
I have followed up on a non-original job who used the other lines.
I've done this job a few times, do ALL the lines now. ALL
Do you have to cut off the hoses below the rails above the injectors?
Do not kink the lines near the pressure regulator.
Be careful with the cold start squirter. (delicate and costly)
Quite a job. but necessary.

I did mine a while back using the repair kit that comes with hoses and clamps, I took the opportunity to remove all of the injectors and replace the rubber seals which are probably hard and leaking air. A dremmel removed the old crimped hoses without damaging the injector body.
To de-pressurise the system before starting, take the connector off the Cold start valve and apply power directly to it for a few seconds.

ok ok,
let see if I got this straight

depressurize system using cold start valve - Where is that located?

cut all lines and then remove them off the respective attachments

replace all lines

use metric lines and new fuel clamps ( can the old ones be reused, mine has them)

I am a bit unclear on the injectors, leave them alone or service them since I have fuel lines off.

Ummmm. and what would that service be??

is the ID on the lines 7.5MM, anyone know for sure before I order?

closer exam tonight - one injector is wet, but it seems to be around the electrical plug in and a bit away from the rubber connection. Do these things leak in other areas? Can they crack and leak?
My nightmare is R/R of all the rubber and the injector still leakes fuel -- egads:dizzy2:
