88 560SL Fuel Pump Cover?

On my 88 560 SL It appears that the fuel pump is mounted inside some type of plastic enclosure. The back of which is open on mine. Is there a cover for this? or is the pump exposed. The pump makes a heck of a racket, the PO records show recent replacement on both.

Thanks!

Your enclosure sounds normal. The rear area is open. Your fuel pumps may be a different brand than the originals, and the motor(s) may be noisier.

OEM pumps are pretty quiet....usually they get noisy as they begin to fail.
Sounds like yours was replaced with a non-Mercedes part....not that that is bad....but could explain the noise.
The enclosure is open in the back (you can look under the back of the car and see the pump and filter).

That all sounds correct.
