Last question on removing door chrome piece....

Can anyone tell me how to remove the chrome strip that resides where the driver's side glass and top of the door panel meet?

Rick on a 126 it's held into place by compression. I use a plastic wedge at the trailing edge of door and tap up with a body hammer - just work your way down the trim. I want to think this is standard across the early models.

Oddly enough I was taking some pictures to document some clear coat repair in that area but I don't have that disk with me at work.

TX, Thank you. That did the trick. I couldn't figure out how to totally remove the side view mirror after removing the two bolts. I was able to lift the mirror enough to coax the trim piece off though. (Total mirror removal tips appreciated)

As an aside, I did notice that there was a small ding on the piece from a previous window replacement. If anyone is parting out an SL and has this piece please let me know.

Remove the plastic handle inside the door by sliding the front of the handle out toward the mirror (it's a separate piece) and the handle toward the back of the car. Then pop the chrome trim piece off - you may need to force the door panel down to get it to clear. Inside there you'll find three screws. Take those out and the mirror falls off. Literally, have someone to catch it.

Scott, Thanks for the instructions. I was able to figure out the process with your guidance. Wish I didn't remove the interior door panel. Oh well. It worked out well in any case.
